iFaqeer on WNYC, New York Public Radio

You should be able listen to my appearance on The Brian Lehrer Show on WNYC, New York Public Radio, in a short while off the web page for the segment:
http://www.wnyc.org/shows/bl/episodes/02282006

[The audio file directly is at: http://audio.wnyc.org/bl/bl022806a.mp3]

Brian asked who Abdus Sattar Edhi is. (I have a quote from him in my e-mail signature.) Here's a previous post where I explain that:

If you do listen to it, please let me know if I came thru as a blathering idiot--and throw in any and all other comments.

Can you elaborate on what do you mean by a contitutional Muslim. I am getting a little confused about the notion of extremist, modern, moderate and now the constitutional muslim. I think we should stick to the definition of muslim and people who are extremist call them extremist (without calling them Islamic Millitants, Muslim Extremist etc). Its enough that media has used terms to confuse the masses and I think atleast Muslims (plain Muslims) should refrain from these categoraization as it further polarizes the muslim community which already is fragmented.

Two points:

* One can grant there is only one true Islam. But there are different types of Muslims, because there are different types of human being. If we are to accept that Islam is "Dheen-e-Kamil" or the complete faith, then it will have facets suited for each type of human. And we all benefit from and absorb Islam differently in our lives. Thus the different types of Muslim. Some people are very rational; Maududi appeals to them. Others connect with things when they can feel them; Rumi appeals to these. I believe that constitutions are a good thing for good governance; thus "constitutional Muslim".

* Secondly, I'd rather define myself than let the definitions of others be how the world looks at me.
